State Senator Kevin Ranker wanted to replace the letter grades with a more detailed evaluation.
While debating the bill on the Senate floor, the Democrat from Orcas Island described an alternative school in the 40th district that he says needs more than a single letter to explain its struggles.
Ranker says the bill needs more detail on why a school struggles to meet standards.
He says the reason for a school’s success or failure cannot be addressed with a letter grade.
