Olympia, Wash. -- Senate Democratic leader Ed Murray has introduced a new bill to help immigrant children succeed.
The proposed Washington Dream Act would qualify college-aged immigrant children to receive state financial aid.
The proposed Washington Dream Act would qualify college-aged immigrant children to receive state financial aid.
Under current law, immigrant students who came to Washington as small children can only take advantage of in-state tuition.
Senator Murray says the proposed bill would give young aspiring students help in obtaining a college degree and an equal opportunity to succeed.
Citing our growing Latino population, Murray contends the state has greatly benefited from the work that immigrant parents have done in the agricultural sector.
He also says their children have a right to the same education and opportunities as children born in the U.S.
