Report: Sale Of Kings To Seattle Group To Be Announced

SACRAMENTO, Calif.  (Metro)  -- The "Sacramento Bee" and other news outlets are reporting that a deal is being finalized for the Maloof family to sell the NBA Kings to a Seattle group led by developer Chris Hansen and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.

The deal, which would move the team to Seattle, could be formally announced as early as today, according to the report.

Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson has said he plans to propose a counter offer in which a rival group would purchase the team and keep them in Sacramento.

Last year, Hansen won tentative approval from the Seattle City Council and the King County Council to build a new NBA arena next to Safeco Field.
