Skagit County Flu Cases Spike

Bellingham, WA (KGMI/Metro)  -- Skagit County is experiencing a spike in influenza cases.

Emergency rooms have seen more patients with flu-like symptoms in the past week than in all of December.

In Snohomish County, health officials say they've had 3 patients die from the virus in the past several days.

Influenza is also circulating earlier this year here in Whatcom County.

This week there were 7 positive Influenza A tests reported, with one related  hospitalization according to the Whatcom County Health Department.  But emergency room visits are up for respiratory complaints.

This last week no schools in Whatcom County were reporting elevated absenteeism rates related to illness.

Six people in the State of Washington have died from this year's flu outbreak.
