Man Arrested After Barricading Himself In Local Hotel

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- It took a team of police negotiators to arrest a man accused of smashing a car windshield at a Bellingham motel on New Years Eve.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office reports 48-year-old Juan Rodriquez Gonzales barricaded himself in a room at the Shamrock Motel early Monday morning following the vandalism.

Deputy Ryan Monogue says he refused to leave, and threatened to hurt officers if they came in.

Monogue says Rodriguez Gonzales had a fight with another guest at the Maplewood Avenue Motel before he used a big piece of metal re-bar to smash the other man’s windshield.

Rodriguez Gonzales was jailed on multiple charges.
