Firefighters Battle Blaze at Peanut Butter Company

Blaine, WA -- A local business falls victim to a late morning fire.

Firefighters from around the area battled flames and smoke yesterday that engulfed the Blaine based Golden Nut Company, a peanut butter manufacturer located on Odell Road.

Fire officials say that the problem started when a peanut roasting unit caught fire.
North Whatcom Fire District Fire Chief Ron Anderson says that firefighters at the station, which is located across the street from the peanut facility, heard a loud explosion coming from the factory after receiving a call triggered by the plant’s alarm just after 11 a.m.

Anderson says it took more than an hour to contain the blaze because the location of the flames forced firefighters to ventilate the roof just above the roaster.

There were no injuries reported.
