Tim Church with the State Department of Health says the epidemic has increased public awareness of whooping cough, but it’s still important for people to get vaccinated, especially adults.
He says the disease can be deadly for babies.
The state is still actively monitoring whooping cough numbers, and reports that Washington now has more than 4,500 reported cases, but the rate of new cases is slowing to levels seen before the epidemic.
Church says babies need everyone around them to be vaccinated so they aren’t exposed.
